Literature Text

You laid down in Arthur’s staring at the ceiling. You must have fallen asleep due to sheer boredom because the next thing you knew you were being shaken awake. You groggily opened your eyes and saw Arthur’s first mate, Alfred, sitting on the bed.

“Alfred?” You said your voice thick with sleep.

“So you remember my name, huh?” he said and grinned.

You got up in a sitting position. “Yeah. Why are you here?”

“Arthur asked me to keep you company.” He explained. “I guess there wasn’t enough room on the deck for a hero like me, so he sent me down here.”

You nodded. “Do you happen to be American?”

“Sure am!” He grinned, giving you a thumbs up. “How could you tell?”

“Your voice and how your so loud.” You replied.

He laughed. “Ya know, I think I'm going to like you.” He gave you a smile.

You smiled back. “The feeling is mutual.”

“Oh, by the way, starting tomorrow, Arthur wants me to teach you how to sword fight." Alfred said.

"Huh?" you asked. "Why?"

"He wants you to be able to protect yourself. Living on a pirate ship isn’t all safe and sound." He explained

You sighed. "Hey, speaking of Arthur, can you answer a question for me?"

"Depends. What's the question?" Alfred replied.

"Can you explain to me the real reason he kidnapped me?" you asked. "He's not telling me everything."

He didn’t answer your question. He just looked out the window and back at you. "Oh, look. It's time to eat." He got up off the bed and walked to the door. When you follow, Alfred turned back to you. "You coming?"

You shook your head. "I'm not hungry."

"Oh, all right." He said. He was almost gone before he turned back. "And about Arthur, you’re the only one who knows him better than I do. You just have to remember that." And with that he walked out of the room, closing the door behind him.

You ended up falling asleep again only to be woken up again seconds later to the sound of a door slamming. You blinked awake and you saw Arthur. He put a tray of food on the little desk and took off his red coat and hung it on the back of the chair. You yawned and then spoke.

"Who shoved a stick up your ass?" You said groggily. "You didn’t have to slam the door. I was sleeping, git." You stretched like a cat and yawned again.

Arthur pointed at the food, his back to you. "Eat." He ordered.

"Why should I? I'm not hungry. If I was, I would have gone down to eat with Alfred." You replied.

"Ya know, I wonder where the girl who was grateful to me for saving her from being married to that Swiss went." Arthur said and ran a hand though his blonde locks. Then he turned to you. "Please, just listen to me. Just eat the damned food."

"I'm not hung—" you stomach growled.

Arthur raised an eyebrow at you. "Care to tell me the truth, love? Because this is your last chance to eat today."

You sighed. "Fine. I'll eat it."

You pouted and sat down in the chair. You looked at the food. It looked like stew and some rice. It wasn’t what you were used to eating, but it looked good. You picked up the spoon and started eating.

"Thank you." Arthur said. "I'll be back in a bit."

He dropped a kiss on your head almost absent mindedly, like it was the most natural thing in the world to do. Then he left. You touched the top of your head where he kissed you and stared at the door, wide eyed. He just kissed you. What the hell was going on?!

You quickly finished eating the food that he brought for you. You put the empty dished on the ground outside of the room. Then you figured you might as well just go find the kitchen and give it to the cook yourself and compliment him for the good food. It would be the polite thing to do, after all.

You ventured out onto the hall. No one else was there and the only light came from candles that lined the walls, covered with glass tubes. You had to admit, it was pretty eerie. You walked down the hall and rounded the corner. You navigated the maze and you got… hopelessly lost. You kept walking through the halls, hoping that you would find your way back to Arthur's cabin. However, instead of finding your way back, you ran into someone. A boy, who looked about twelve years old.

You looked at the boy you just ran into. He had eyebrows a little like Arthurs, blue eyes and was wearing a sailor suit. He looked adorable. But you kind of wondered why a boy his age would be on a pirate ship.

"I'm sorry." You said to the boy.

"Oh, it's ok!" He said. "Are you the girl Alfred told me about? (Name), right?"

You nodded. "That’s me. What's your name?"

"Peter. Peter Kirkland." He replied with a smile. He had a cute British accent, almost like Arthur's.

"Kirkland? Is it safe to assume that you're Arthur's younger brother?" You asked.

He nodded. "Yeah. That British jerk of jerks is my older brother."

"British jerk of jerks? That’s a new one…" You said. "Hey, wait, aren’t you British too?"

"I most certainly am not!" he said, pouting. "I'm from Sealand!"

You look at him and shrugged. "Well, then you're not British then."

"That’s right." He said. "Wait. What are you doing all the way down here, (name)?"

"Oh, erm… I got lost." You explained. "I was looking for the kitchen to return these dishes and thank the cook for the tasty meal."

"Oh, I see. Well follow me, I'll lead you there. Then I suppose I'll also take you back to Arthur's cabin too, so you don’t get lost again." He giggled and you couldn’t help but laugh with him.

Laughing, he turned and started walking. You followed and eventually you made it back to the kitchen. You brought the plate in. you met the cook, an Austrian named Roderich Edelstein. You thanked him for the food. He smiled. Then you left. Peter walked you all the way back to Arthur's cabin, talking to you the whole way. Peter left you by the door, smiling, saying that he'd sit in and watch Alfred teach you how to sword fight in the morning. You smiled and waved as he disappeared from your view. Two new friends in one day. You were on a roll.

You walked into Arthur's cabin, finding it empty, not surprising. You walked over to the bed and, after taking off your leather belt that was over your shoulder and your boots, you laid down. You had to admit, today was a long, relatively abnormal day for you. First you were about to get married, then you were kidnapped. You made two new friends and one… frenemy? You thought Arthur could be classified as such. You yawned, closed your eyes, drifting off to sleep, once again, this time, hopefully, for the entire night.

Arthur's POV

He walked off of the deck, he was completely wiped out. Another long day at sea. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair, yawning. He opened the door to his cabin, and saw you laying on the bed, fast asleep. A smile formed on his lips and he kneeled on the ground next to the bed. Your back was to him and he put his arms on the mattress, crossed. He watched as you rolled in your sleep, now facing him.

She looks so peaceful when she sleeps, Arthur thought to himself and brushed a bit of hair back from your face.

"Wai—no… dongo…"

Arthur blinked. You just talked in your sleep. What were you dreaming about, Arthur wondered. He smiled and stood up, going to let you sleep, but he also wasn’t going to miss out on sleep either.

Huh. Cool role for Austria.
I doubt he’d ever be a cook though, wasn’t there that one episode where he collapses after cooking or something?
